Downtown Phoenix, AZ Community

It’s truly wonderful that you’re interested in finding ways to support our local veterans here in Phoenix! Our community owes a great debt of gratitude to the men and women who have served our country. Fortunately, there are many avenues for us to give back and help them thrive, through volunteering our time, donating to impactful causes, or simply spreading the word about the resources available to them.

Supporting veterans isn’t just about acknowledging their service; it’s about actively contributing to their well-being and successful reintegration into civilian life. In Phoenix, this means connecting them with crucial services, offering them opportunities for personal and professional growth, and ensuring they have a strong support network. There are numerous ways for residents, businesses, and families to get involved and make a real difference in the lives of those who have sacrificed so much.

The Mission Continues is a fantastic organization working hard to empower veterans through leadership development and community impact. They run programs called “Service Platoons,” where veterans and community members team up to tackle local challenges. Think of it as veterans leading the charge on projects that benefit everyone, like improving parks or supporting local schools. It’s a powerful way for veterans to continue serving and for the community to benefit directly from their skills and dedication.

Another key player in Phoenix is U.S.VETS Phoenix. They provide comprehensive support for veterans, focusing heavily on crucial areas like housing, mental health services, and career development. Many veterans face challenges finding stable housing or accessing the mental health care they need after service. U.S.VETS Phoenix offers a lifeline, providing these essential services and helping veterans build a solid foundation for their futures. Getting involved with them often means supporting events like “Steps for Vets,” a walk to raise awareness and funds.

When it comes to financial support, the Arizona Military Family Relief Fund (MFRF) is a direct way to help. This fund assists service members, veterans, and their families who are facing unexpected financial hardships. Help with rent, utilities, or other urgent bills can make a significant difference during tough times. The MFRF is open to both pre and post-9/11 veterans, ensuring broad support for those who have served.

What’s especially great is that donating to the MFRF can also benefit you through the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit. You can donate online and receive a dollar-for-dollar credit on your Arizona state taxes, up to a certain limit. This means you can help veterans in need while also reducing your tax burden. It’s a mutually beneficial situation, but it’s important to donate early in the year, as there’s a $1 million cap on tax credit donations.

Ready to make an impact? Volunteering with organizations like The Mission Continues or U.S.VETS Phoenix is a rewarding experience. You can join a Service Platoon and work alongside veterans on community projects, or help out at events that support veteran services. Check their websites for upcoming opportunities and learn how your skills can be put to good use.

For financial contributions, consider donating to the Arizona Military Family Relief Fund. Visit their website to make a donation and take advantage of the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit. Every bit helps, and your support directly assists Arizona’s veterans and their families through difficult times. Let’s show our veterans how much we appreciate them!

We’d love to hear from you! Have you volunteered with these organizations or donated to the MFRF? Share your experiences in the comments below!
